So Good I Made it Twice…

My first PDF pattern make and it’s set to become a TNT!

I bought the Vanilla top by Waffle Patterns way back when I first started dressmaking but only recently just mustered up the energy to print, cut and paste a pdf pattern. It really wasn’t so bad!

I love this design – it’s a little different to a straightforward sweatshirt but so simple to make. The only tricky bit is cutting out super stretchy fabric – I’ve never worked with fabric with so much streeetch. Fortunately the bodice pieces do not need to be cut on the fold and my advice is to trace off the hem, cuff and neck band pattern pieces in full so that these don’t need to cut them on the fold either. And arm your self with a rotary cutter, it’s the only way!

The style definitely works best with stripes (as a bonus this makes it easier to align the fabric) and I had already bought some blue/grey striped jersey specifically for this top. I also bought some cheap black/grey striped jersey from Fabric Land for my toile (£2.49 a metre!)

As it turned out my first attempt fit perfectly (a brand new experience for me!) and the toile top is a keeper.

So now have two – a v-neck and round-neck!
